Dear Ron

Although I have been unable to trace a record I believe that Benjamin was the brother of my great grandfather, George Henry Roadnight. I know that Benjamin was born on 4th January 1845 in Sydenham , Oxfordshire to John Roadnight and Elizabeth, nee Brown. ( They married in Wing, Buckinghamshire in 1826 and had a number of children including Joseph, Isaac and Maria before moving to Sydenham.) Benjamin was baptised on 27th Spetmber 1846.) They had a baby Emma, who died and then named another daughter Emma ( also known as Emily). Emma was 11months in the 1841 census taken in Sydenham. By 1861 Emma was living as a servant at a pub in Banbury Oxfordshire. I believe that she had a daughter, Ann, prior to her marriage in 1868 in Banbury to a local baker, Daniel Claridge.
Emma and Daniel Claridge moved to Steeple Aston near by and that is where Elizabeth Skerry ( Roadnight nee Brown) Emma's mother died in 1886. her brother, Benjamin is listed as a witness at the wedding in 1868.
John Roadnight, a shepherd, Emma's father, was transported for sheep stealing in the autumn of 1845 to Tasmania ( ten years) and John died in Sorrell in 1863.

Maria Roadnight, Benjamin's older sister, went under the assisted passage scheme to Australia and married William Thomas Francis and had children who have descendants there!
