William Smith and Catherine Black appear from nowhere in Percé, Gaspé, Québec sometime in the 1788-1789 era. Here in Percé they had 6 children born and baptised: James, William, John, Denis, Charlotte and Jean. Jean was born Percé but baptised in Grande-Grave, Gaspé, Québec. This is my maternal ancestral line and has been the most difficult to continue, being a SMITH name I suppose. If anyone has any good ideas for links and searching areas I'd most welcome them. I have researched many Gaspé area records, United Empire Loyalists records, Channel Island records and even Scotland records, all which do not not give me that elusive marriage record for Willam Smith & Catherine Black. Hope someday to make that wonderful connection.
