Named after Isidore Chénier (1858-1931). He first lived in the Gracefield and Bouchette area along the Gatineau River. In the 1880s Isidore purchased some land near the Picanoc River on a bush road used to access logging company establishments in the Lac Cayamant area.
He saw the chance to open up a bit of farmland along with a store for customers going to and from that area.

This hamlet has received the name of Chénier in memory of a merchant family established in 1895 in Gracefield. Three members of this family have been postmasters. Isidore Chénier, May 22, 1905 to October 15, 1931. His son, Hermas Chénier took over from November 13, 1931 to July 31, 1961 and finally succeeding him was Réal Chénier 1 August 1969 until the closure of post office, August 12, 1969.

Appelé après Isidore Chénier (1858-1931). Il a d'abord vécu à Gracefield et la région de Bouchette le long de la Rivière Gatineau. Au cours des années 1880 Isidore a acheté un terrain près de la Rivière Picanoc sur une route utilisée pour accéder aux établissements de compagnie notants dans la région du Lac Cayamant.
Il a vu la chance d'ouvrir un peu de terres cultivables avec un magasin pour les clients allant à cette région et aussi de leurs retour.

Ce hameau a reçu la dénomination de Chénier en souvenir d'une famille de commerçants établie à Gracefield dès 1895. Trois membres de cette famille ont été maître de poste soit Isidore Chénier du 22 mai 1905 au 15 octobre 1931. Son fils, Hermas Chénier prend la relève du 13 novembre 1931 au 31 juillet 1961 et enfin Réal Chénier lui succède du 1er août 1969 jusqu'à la fermeture du bureau de poste, le 12 août 1969.
