Note: At the birth of Marie Sara Poirier dit Desloges her Godfather was Théophile Ross (he later married Rose Chéné in 1871), and her Godmother was Philomène Desloges, her sister, who would have been 19 years old at the time of Marie Sara's baptisme. At the birth of Philomène Poirier dit Desloges Antoine Poirier is recorded as being her Godfather. No mention of her Godmother!

The Genealogical Family life of François Poirier dit Desloges and Marie Lantier

In 1838 François Poirier dit Desloge and his wife Marie Bourdeau dit Lantier were living in the parish of St.Augustin, Terrebonne, Qué. That year, their first child was born there: François Xavier, 29 Dec 1838. Two years and 3 months later, a second child, a daughter was born to them in the same parish: Philomène: 11 Feb 1841. Then, one year and seven months later on 24 Sep 1842 a third child, another daughter was born in the same parish: Dina. A fourth child, a daughter again, Marie was born 17 Aug 1844.
This seems to be the last time François Poirier dit Desloges and Marie Bourdeau dit Lantier had children in the parish of St.Augustin, Terrebonne,Qué. There is for some unknown reason a lapse of 16 years before their next recorded child. It appears that they must have moved to Buckingham, Papineau, Qué sometime between 1844 and 1860 where in that year (1860) Marie Sara was born on 3 Jun.

Philomène Poirier dit Desloges, 19 years old in 1860 was in Buckingham, as attested by the christening of her sister, Marie Sara. She is later discovered in the county of Bowman, north of Buckingham, Qué., probably near the settlement of Val-des-Bois, on the Lièvre River. This information is recorded in the 1861 Census Return of Bowman County, where she is shown as the spouse of Janvier Chénier! For the purpose of the Census Return, it recorded that he was 22 years old and that she was 20 years old at the time of the census. The return also indicates that Janvier Chénier's place of residence was St.Hermas and that hers was Rivière du Lièvre.
Both may have been married somewhere in or near Buckingham as she was there for her sister's christening on 3 Jun 1860. Or, they may have been married in or near Val-des-Bois in the county of Bowman shortly before the Census of 1861.
Nine months later both of them (Janvier Chénier and Philomène Poirier dit Desloges) are located in Buckingham where their first child, a daughter, Philomène is born on 10 Dec 1861. Her Godfather was François Desloges and her Godmother was Marie Lantier- her grandparents.(She later marries Anthime Larivière).
Seems odd that in one and a half year she (or they) would travel all that distance....Buckingham to Val des Bois, then sometime before Dec 1861 return to Buckingham for the birth of Philomène.
About 4 years later, 1864, Janvier is born. And present at his baptism are Marcelline Desloges and Luc Lalonde.(As per microfilm of baptisms in Buckingham).
In the next census, 10 years later, in 1871, they are not located in the county of Bowman, but can be found in subsequent Buckingham census returns.

     Arsidas CHENIER, born on 1 March 1883 in Buckingham, QC, Canada,¹ and was baptized on 4 March 1883 in Buckingham, QC, Godparents: Arsidas Lahaie and Exina Chénier.² He married Léa MALOUIN, daughter of Moïse MALOUIN and Marie Jeanne Yvonne GUINDON, on 20 October 1902 in Plantagenet, ON, Canada.³ He is included in the family photograph below taken on 2 October 1952.

Research Notes: The year of birth for Arsidas was thought to be 1 Mar 1888 as seen from the Census Return. It may have been a "typo" or the figure 3 was misread as an 8. But as his marriage certificate shows he was 19 years old at time of his marriage on 20 Oct 1902 this would indicate that he was in fact born in 1883. Present at his wedding were: Janvier Chenier and Moise Guidon, the priest was J.A. Pelletier.

Research Notes: In Société généalogique de l'Outaouais, in Gatineau, QC (SGO), MFM No. 0417 the baptismal record indicates Philomène's family name spelt as Chénier. But at her wedding her name was spelt as Chéné.

Have not been able to find Théophile's birth record to see how his last name is spelled. However at his wedding his name is spelled as Chéné. Ref: Mariage de St-Grégoire-de-Nazianze, Buckingham, QC. (ANQ Répertoires 07-115). However his name is spelled as CHENIER in the 1901 Census.
